Do We Celebrate Halloween?

31 Oct

One year we gave out bookmarks that looked like this?

halloween

And the following year we stopped encouraging them with our participation (no matter how small or seemingly worthy) and turned them all away with a sign.

To celebrate or not…ask God for His answer, especially in the case of what we encourage and allow our children to do.

“But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”  Matthew 18:6

    These are great ideas.
What did we do tonight? The church that grew up in has a “Light Party” and invites the community to dress up (no witches or anything ‘dark’ allowed) and play sideshow alley type games have sausage sizzle, jumping castles and then we go inside and sing some little christian songs have a dance around, a best dressed costume parade, Prayer and supper.
It is a really great night and the majority of people who go are just regulars from the community looking for somthing that is positive for their children. They also have people going around to the adults talking and explaining why God doesnt like halloween not to mention the hypocrisy that halloween is; we drill into our children “do not take lollies form strangers” 🙂

All in all it was a really fun night for the kids. On the way home my eldest said “Isnt it sad that people go around door knocking when instead they could be here having so much fun and learning to love Jesus AND they aren’t even American!” Out of the mouths of babes 🙂

    Love your work,
    Megan

Sounds like you had a lovely night.

I can’t believe parents let their children roam the street.

We were out tonight so we didn’t have to deal with them.
