Safety Week This Week at the Pool

16 Nov

My boys have been counting down the months, weeks, sleeps and hours until this thing.

What’s the big deal? It’s merely a change in routine.

The children get to use all sorts of improvised flotation devices (cordial bottles, Coke bottles)

as well as familiarising themselves with the use of a life jacket.

My boys love safety week.

It’s a great idea too.  Our swimming instructor taught the boys how to jump in the water with a life jacket on

and how to rescue someone who has fallen in the pool – demonstrating the disasters that are probable if you jump in and try to save them, or stand or sit up on the side of the pool while trying to pull them in.

The lesson flies by in the blink of an eye.  The boys didn’t want the lesson to end.  Thankfully next week is “Flipper” week.

Always plenty to look forward to in life when you enjoy the small things.  Children help you notice these small things…don’t you agree.
