We have been busy little beavers this week. We had two outings!
I know. I know. Homeschoolers are believed to remain at home locked in cupboards day in and day out.
Sorry to burst your bubble.
It’s actually my constant challenge to find a way to keep us at home.
But it just never seems to work for long. Something always lures us out week after week.
This past week we toddled off to South Bank with several friends for an orienteering activity.
All we needed was a Park Orienteering map and we were set for an adventure.
We chose an easy course for our first experience. We followed our maps to numbered locations to find the answers to various questions.
We found all but two of our clues (which were easy to solve anyway). The maps are a few years old so we speculated that some of our clues may have floated off down the river in the recent floods or been removed during the cleanup.
It was still a wonderful outing and activity. We can’t wait to do another!
Then on Friday we spent the morning at the Gold Coast Botanic Gardens.
We planned to meet some Gold Coast homeschoolers but seemingly most of the guests had cancelled. We opted to stay and play anyway and we’re so glad we did. After a while homeschoolers slowly started to arrive and by the end of the morning we had a nice little group of five families.
Before leaving we went for a stroll around the gardens with several of the families. Of course the water was like a magnet to the children. Thankfully mine didn’t fall in this time (they usually do!). I must remember to bring spare clothes and a towel for future visits!
It was a lovely little place. Not as big or spectacular as the Brisbane Botanic Gardens but still a nice place for a play and stroll.
And we made some lovely new friends and enjoyed the company of some old friends.
To finish our park play on a lovely note we joined two of the families at a local cafe for a drink and a quick bite to eat.
The children (7 small boys!) were remarkably well behaved and from what we saw no patrons fled when they saw us coming. However we were quick to point out that this was a very special one time treat…fearing they would expect the same end to each park play at the Gardens. Hehehe.
So there you have it! Our homeschool outings for the week – excluding the trip to the post office, grocery store, library, petrol station, tree nursery (twice since we got the wrong plant), two friends’ homes and a local park to collect mulberry leaves.
Such is life in the real world and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
