What’s in the bottom of the cocoon?

06 Oct

To the everyone’s disgust, I’m sure, I reached into the tank and pulled out one of the opened cocoons.  Yes I got my fingers a little ooeey gooeey.

The top of the cocoon around the opening is damp and there’s a lot of ‘mess’ that looks like blood…I dare say it’s not…I’ll get back to you when we discover what it is called.

Anyway, what we thought was staining in the bottom of the cocoon is not.

We used tweezers and pulled out the contents and found the pupa casing AND the last moulted caterpillar skin.
