Holiday Edition

03 Jan

I’m back and things should return to normal around here now.

We’ve been busy doing the usual holiday season things.  While we don’t celebrate Christmas we do participate in our extended family gatherings over the season.  For us it’s just another chance to spend with family – a nice meal and blessing others with gifts.  We don’t feel any need to hide out over the holidays and upset the family.   All the hoopla means nothing to us.  It’s just stuff that we don’t have at our house so we’re happy to spend Christmas Day with family.  So that’s where we’ve been for the last two weeks – visiting family over the Christmas-New Year season.

We even went to check out the light displays.  Only the award winners.  There didn’t seem like as many light displays this year as there have been in the past.  I can’t begin to imagine what an inconvenience it would be to live in or near these houses – parking was horrendous, there were tour buses delivering people to the displays, there were people walking all over their front yards and some places even had ice cream vans parked out the front.  We went on the first day of Hanukkah and talked about who was THE Light of the world.   Several of the homes had nativity scenes in their displays but they definitely didn’t take pride of place amongst the glitz and sparkle.  We enjoyed hunting for them though.  It almost makes me want to create our own light display with a solely Christian focus…but I fear the Santa extravaganza next door would still dominant the street.

After Christmas we dogsat my sister’s dog Pablo…for a week this time.   It was a trial.  Thankfully I delivered him back to his mummy yesterday…and then spent today bleaching my house!  Hehehe.  Yes he’s a cute little dog but there’s no audio on these photos.  This little cute dog rarely ever stops barking.

Don't laugh at the hat. His 'Mummy' packed him a raincoat, a Santa suit and a jacket too. I'm not kidding you!

His favourite toy. He looked ridiculous carting it around my yard though.

He gets squirted with water for barking. He's a slow learner though and personally I don't think it was working.

A holiday with a house full of boys is exhausting work

Of course there has been lots of time spent exploring and delighting in the gifts we’ve received.  Yes we do gifts too.  We don’t go overboard giving to every person we’ve ever met or are related too.   Just those very special people in our lives.   I’d prefer to do it on a day that wasn’t Christmas but for now I’m okay with blessing others on the 25th as much as any other day.  This year we were blessed with some very special gifts from Grandma and Grandad – an ipad for the family and a Kindle for me!!  Consequently we’ve spent way too much time in front of screens.  Hehehehe.  But it doesn’t count if you’re reading does it?  Hehehe.

I love the e-ink technology. I'm impressed. More impressed that I could ever have imagined. I haven't touched a real book since Christmas. It's almost criminal but true.

For New Year’s Eve we headed back to my parent’s house in Ipswich to attend the New Year’s festivities.  They had free entertainment, free rides (yes FREE…an almost unheard of treat) and two fireworks sessions.   We stayed for the first fireworks’ session and then headed back to Grandma and Grandad’s for a quiet evening lounging around with family.  The boys enjoyed a dvd but didn’t see the New Year in…obviously.  I read my way into the New Year…yes on the Kindle.  Hehehe.  We stayed for few extra days and returned home yesterday.

Huge lines in the ride area. We rode on the dodgem cars and cha-cha ride. Sorry but I wasn't getting out of that line for a better shot!

So that’s what I’ve been up to.  For the next few days I’ll be cleaning and washing and grocery shopping and generally restoring order to our holiday chaos….and probably sneaking in lots of Kindle time too.  Hehehe.

Hope you all had a lovely holiday season with your families and that the New Year brings you many blessings.

Oh what awesome new years events you get!!! We got an iPad ‘ for’ christmas too, I was supposed to get it for MY birthday back in September, I suggested to the children they put their Christmas money towards it since I did only want it for school. And in exchange they get one hour of free time once a week on their mail day. It’s working a treat so far…. But then, we haven’t started using it during school, I bet I get a lot of whining about, who used it more than someone else, once school starts :/

We have BIG plans for this year…. I’m even considering having a different blog just for school stuff…..emphasis on considering, at the moment lol.
