A Little Bird’s Nest

29 Sep

The other day the boys found an abandoned bird’s nest on the ground in our front yard.

The branch had been broken off and was lying dead on the ground.

Sadly the little nest came complete with a tiny egg, nestled with care amongst its mother’s feathers.

The egg was damaged on the underside.

As the homeschool mother of boys, I of course performed an autopsy on the remains.

Look away if you are squeamish…

Seemingly our little eggy friend was quite under developed when he fell to his demise.

No, it’s not gross.  It’s fascinating.

Well that’s what I was telling myself the whole time I was gagging.

I found the nest more intriguing though…and a lot less gooey.

Within the nest it’s actually very cosy and soft.  And just look at the clever and careful engineering of the nest.

You can definitely see the hand of the Creator in that work.

It is a shame that the little bird didn’t survive so we could have enjoyed its beauty too.
