Roped In

09 Feb

This past weekend Aunty Tracey got roped in to taking photos of the most bizarre thing ever.

We dressed up the baby in a tutu and pearls,

which she was most fascinated with, but didn’t actually want to wear,

and gave her a birthday cake.

What does a baby, who has never eaten sugar or cake, do when presented with an iced cake?

They “smash” it, which is why this insanity is called “a cake smash” photo shoot

…or so says the internet.

(Her first birthday is coming up in a month and these photos will go onto her invitation).

The baby thought we had lost the plot too

but she slowly checked out this thing called a cake.

The texture was rather a curiosity

but she went back for more, time and time again.

After quite a while, we had to show her that it could in fact be eaten,

and that moved us to a whole new level of experience.

It seemed that she very much approved of this new food that had been introduced to her.

Delighted in fact.

Allowing us to get those highly sought after ‘cake smash’ gems.

We didn’t allow this insanity to go on for too long as we were working with a tired baby

…who didn’t actually manage that nap once the sugar hit.

Not as much cake was eaten as it might seem, but for a little one, I’m sure it was more than enough.

However, the baby didn’t feel the same as we did about it when the cake was removed from her

…but quickly moved on to splashing in the tub instead.

So that was my Sunday afternoon, roped into my sister’s crazy ideas.

It actually turned out better than we expected and much easier than anticipated.

With over 200 photos of ‘cake smashing’ my sister now has plenty of options for the baby’s birthday invitation.

I am LOVING those photos Tracey! Your niece is absolutely adorable – and all that pink!!! Can I see the finished invitation?

We’re putting the house on the market tomorrow – we’ve been painting etc like crazy people every spare hour of the week and weekend and nights!!! Vince’s liver is really playing up so it’s “illness forces sale” and “all offers considered”!

Hoping to still see you on Friday – your place pretty please??? [?]

It reminds me of a scene in the movie Matilda!

Love them. My sister-in-law in Geelong weirdly does this for a living … taking photo’s of kids smashing cakes that is, not dressing in tutus and pearls and smashing them. 😉

Oh her little pout in the last photo is so cute!! She is adorable. My kids loved a bath when they were messy. I think they thought the bubbles were just another stage of the mess and fun.
