Working Hard

30 May

I know.  It’s been awfully quiet around here but we’ve been like ducks, heads down and bottoms up, working hard.

To prove it, here is a story Brayden just finished writing.  This should prove that I haven’t just been lounging in front of the tv in pjs, eating bon bons and neglecting my blog on purpose.  🙂

Bert’s Consequences

By Brayden

On a summer’s afternoon, at the end of the week, two boys that were school friends, decided to walk to the park.   Bert, who was a very skilled prankster, was planning how to outsmart his friend, although he wasn’t as mean as he would seem to be.   Eddy, who was a little younger than Bert, was quite gullible and easily outsmarted.   The boys were eagerly walking to the swings, however Bert knew there was only one swing in the park as the second swing had been removed for maintenance.

When they arrived at the old, red swing set, Eddy noticed that one of the swings was missing.   “Only one of us will be able to swing,” said Eddy, who didn’t know that Bert knew about the missing swing.   Bert, who had been planning this moment since school finished, replied, “One of us will have to miss out. “ No one volunteered.   Then Bert cunningly told Eddy that swings often make people feel nauseous and sometimes vomit.   Eddy was unconvinced and replied, “I’ve never seen anyone feel sick on a swing.” Bert added, since Eddy wasn’t being outsmarted too easily this time, “My friend Ben broke both of his legs when a swing tragically collapsed. “ Eddy began to look worried because his school cross country race was next Monday.   Eddy looked at his watch and said, “Oh, it’s already 4 o’clock. Mum told me I have to work on my school project this afternoon.   I’d better go. “

Bert watched with glee as his friend ran home.   He had fooled his friend and he was delighted because he could now use the swing all by himself.   Bert sat on the swing, as pleased as a gold prize winner, and began to rapidly pump his legs back and forth, going faster and higher.   Just as he was as high as he could swing, he heard a creaking sound.   He looked up just as a rusted chain link snapped and the swing collapsed to the ground.   Bert landed with his leg and one arm twisted in the wrong direction.   Bert lay on the ground in agony, thinking of the terrible consequences of fooling his friend.

See!  I told you we’ve been hard at work.
