Butterfly!

Yes, we are the proud parents to a butterfly.

079 (Small) Just check out her beautiful eyes!

We went into labour last night when the chrysalis turned from silvery to black

and as always happens, it was born in the wee hours of the morning.

So we awoke to this…

Our butterfly is currently fanning her wings and making herself ready for her first flight.

This process takes quite a number of hours.

We are just delighted with our newest addition…

The Common Crow Butterfly

🙂

PS  We have just learned how to identify male and female Common Crow Butterflies and have discovered that our butterfly was indeed female.

I know! It’s my type of science observation. No waiting time.

We just released him when we got home. We’d covered him with a big basket with holes while we were out so he’d have space to fly around but would still be contained and not lost in the house. We actually did lose him for a moment when we got home but quickly recaptured him and got him out to our front garden. He happily sat and posed for a final photo and then fluttered off into the sun set.
